DON 2 - A Sincere Effort

It was the 25th wedding anniversary of my parents and I was in Mumbai to celebrate with my family. Unlike Mumbai, movies in Bangalore are restricted to weekends and since most of my friends in Bangalore had made up their plan to watch the movie on the new year weekend meant that I won't have any company for the movie when I come back to Bangalore. So I had to see it in Mumbai and that is exactly what I did. After a very long time I got the opportunity to see the movie with my family.

One thing that I have realized over a period of time is that more often than not I do not comprehend with the expert movie reviews that you find in the newspapers and/or blogs. Taran Adarsh for one finds every movie worth watching and some hardly find any movie worth watching. Well I must say a lot depends on the company you chose for a movie. :)

Movie started with the typical introduction of the unbeatable - DON; a fighting sequence to set the tone of the movie. And the movie continues to build the plot with some narration, sprinkled with little humor and bits and pieces of car chases, skirmishes to keep the movie interesting. A little complacency would have made the first half somnolent. Farhan manages to keep the first half just about interesting; a decent job. All right - the plot is set, you know the good guys, bad guys, ambitions and of course the primary GOAL.

The story begins to unfold in the second half like a typical spy style movie, lots of explosives, guns, burly guys, a geek. It picks up quite a bit of pace in the second half. Some distrust begins to creep in and that sets the expectations for various twist and turns. And since its SRK, a love story is an integral part. Quite a complex love-hate relation between the protagonists but easy for the audience to grasp thanks to a good screenplay.
For quite a few guys the movie gets a little predictable towards the end and hence turns out to be a decent movie for them. But for many who failed to notice the possible outcome the movie was outstanding.

The movie follows the modern trend of integrating the songs in the script instead of the age-old bollywood idiosyncrasy of shooting boring songs sequences which are somehow made to fit-in in the movie. Avoid going for this movie with friends whom you are catching up after a long time, for you'll this is not an ideal choice.Have fun. :)
